Environment goes to the festivals…..

…..But no tent and wellies necessary!

We’re excited to see that one of our Wee Wise Words episodes, Environment has been doing the festival circuit.

From Bristol to Berlin, Stuttgart to Sydney and some far flung places in between, the heart-warming 5min programme focuses on the thoughts of local primary school children. Their insightful and refreshing opinions give new meaning to everyday events and subjects that can only be seen through the eyes of a child. Unfortunately it was only our precious film that went to the festivals, our trusty designers had to stay put in the studios working on the next dabble of exciting projects.

CBBC Newsround – Living with Alcohol

We produced over 7 minutes of specially commissioned animation, which formed part of a 14 minute documentary on the subject of children whose lives were affected by alcohol. It was broadcast during the World Cup season on CBBC and won a BAFTA for Best Children’s Factual Program.

Following the success of Living with Alcohol we were asked to do another one earlier this year.
Living with Cancer takes a look at the lives of three children who have been affected by the disease and retells their personal stories in an informative, accessible way.

Animation constitutes a large part of the program, for which we supplied a mix of hand drawn and 3D sequences. Other animated sequences were based on photographs supplied by their families.

Living with Cancer aired on Tuesday 29th of March on BBC1 and is also available as an online resource on the Newsround website.

Superhero Me!

SuperHero Me! was a half hour documentary for the Discovery Channel which investigated the latest technologies allowing us to exert the skills and tasks previously reserved to the domain of Comic Book Superheroes.

Flickerpix was commissioned to produce all the graphics and visual effects for the documentary in a style reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein and 1950′s Marvel comics.

These were then coloured and composited digitally into 3D environments, whilst retaining the water colour textures and character designs of Oliver Jeffers’ original artwork.
